We have recruited two groups of women to help us answer our research questions.
Group 1 are women who are eligible for annual mammograms. By taking part in the study, they will enable us to build a resource of blood samples and mammogram images. If a woman develops breast cancer, we will analyse the blood samples to identify the first time cancer was detected. In this way we will be able to determine whether our tests are reliable in detecting breast cancer at an early stage. We will also be able to go back to the mammogram images to look for changes in breast tissue over time.
Group 2 are a smaller group of women, living in the Cambridge area, who have been invited to attend Cambridge Breast Unit following a recent mammogram screen. The majority of these women will not have breast cancer but by providing a blood sample, they will help us to refine the sensitivity of the blood tests.
